One weekend when i was visiting Jaimee in phoenix we hit up some garage sales. I had now luck that day at all but i did see this desk at a house and loved it and had so many ideas on how to refinish it. The lady wanted $50 for it and that was not gonna happen from so, so i gave her my phone number and told her if she didn't sell it and was willing to take $20 to call me and i would love to have it. So later that day i got a call from her and that is where my desks story begins :)!!!
When i picked it up it was in awful condition there had to be at least 3 layers of different colored paint on top of its original varnish but it had potential, with all of its details and crevices and gorgeousness i could not wait to start transforming it!!! So here it is right before i started sanding!
I had started sanding that right side before i remembered i hadn't taken before pictures.
There were bubbles all over and dings it was awful!!!
and it was yellowing.
This is after i sanded it down i thought about staining the whole thing but i couldn't get enough of the paint out of all of the crevices to make it look good stained.
After i painted it i had a hard time deciding if i would glaze it or not so these next two pictures are glazed and not glazed i decided to glaze!!
But the above pic had a little too much glaze on it so i removed some for the finished project.
Tad ah!!! So here it is my first piece of furniture i have ever refinished all done and looking pretty. I have officially lost my furniture redoing virginity!! And i think it turned out pretty awesome for a first timer if i do say so myself.
Side note- Paul may or may not have helped me out quite a bit with this piece but not because i needed him to just because he is a perfectionist and anytime i asked him a question or did something on my own, he decided it would be easier for him to do it himself or it was not very good so it needed to be redone. He is amazing though and i was not going to fight over something so small. So thank you honey for all your hard work in helping me make my vision for this desk come alive. Oh yeah another side note i found a dresser that was my inspiration for this desk from a before and after blog so i did not come up with this look all on my own!!!
